The Spanish pavilion at the Venice Biennale has long been a showcase for Spain’s architectural prowess. In its latest iteration, the Biennale aimed for a forward-looking approach, seeking to expand its scope to include the work of new architects and reflect the evolving landscape of the discipline. Named “Becoming,” the exhibition symbolized this paradigm shift towards inclusivity and innovation.

The project faced the challenge of defining a new metaphorical language for the exhibition. The curatorial team sought a graphic system capable of representing over 300 student projects without imposing hierarchical structures. The goal was to enable visitors to grasp and appreciate the transformative dynamics of a new generation of architectural talent.

Challenge

To address the challenge, it was decided that the Spanish Pavilion would have both physical and virtual dimensions. This dual approach aimed to enhance visibility, with selected projects accessible online for exploration. The physical exhibition in Venice would be replicated through an interactive website, offering users an immersive virtual experience. Achieving this required meticulous mapping of the Pavilion’s architecture and precise positioning of each project within the physical space, ensuring an accurate representation in the virtual realm.
